Plant a Row - Daniela's Story
Daniela is a member of Caldwell County 4-H, a 5th grader at Hudson Elementary School and the local organizer and promoter of "Plant a Row for the Hungry" in her community. Daniela gardens with a church group (one acre of potatoes), at her home garden, and at a Community Garden to harvest fresh food for donation to our local food banks and area pantries. She works with Caldwell County 4-H and Master Gardeners to provide youth opportunities to be part of the community garden. She see’s that garden as a resource for other youth to begin thinking about how they can become involved in growing healthy food for themselves and others.
Since the start of this year, Daniela has set up "Plant a Row for the Hungry" displays at 5 area businesses, promoted Plant a Row at local community events, spoken to church and civic groups/clubs/classes, been interviewed by our local talk radio station, invited to participate in a taping of "Caldwell County Today" with our County Public Information Officer and Agriculture Extension Agent, and will be interviewed by our local newspaper this month. Daniela is considered a leader by her peers and an inspiration by many adults who support her and her efforts.
